These struggles not only challenge the parents who must tighten their budgets, but also can have significant effect on their children’s physical and emotional well-being. To help families cope with the challenges of this economic climate, Sesame Street is producing, in association with David Letterman’s production company Worldwide Pants Incorporated and Lookalike Productions, a new PBS primetime special, Families Stand Together: Feeling Secure in Tough Times.

Hosted by Al Roker, Deborah Roberts and Elmo, Families Stand Together aims to help families with children, ages two to eight, experiencing difficult economic circumstances by offering strategies and tips that can lead to positive outcomes for their children’s physical and emotional well-being during this tough economic climate.

The primetime special is only the beginning of an ambitious, bilingual, multiple media initiative led by Sesame Workshop and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The Families Stand Together initiative moves beyond the television special to offer families with young children a robust set of resources—from outreach kits to web-based resources to community screenings—to ensure that the emotional health and development of their children is not overshadowed by economic crisis. This initiative is made possible by the generous support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).
